Ingredients

  • 2 packages Camembert
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice (about 2.5 oranges)
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1-2 eggs (for breading)
  • Oil for frying (about 1/2 inch in the pan)

Instructions

  1. Squeeze fresh orange juice to get 1 cup (about 2.5 oranges).
  2. In a small pot, combine orange juice, orange zest, brown sugar, butter, and salt.
  3. Bring to a boil and simmer until the sauce reduces by half or reaches desired thickness (15–20 minutes).
  4. Strain the sauce through a sieve and let it cool.
  5. Cut the Camembert rings in half.
  6. Dip each cheese slice in beaten egg, ensuring coverage on the sides.
  7. Coat thoroughly with bread crumbs. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating process.
  8. Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a pan over medium heat.
  9. Fry cheese slices until golden brown. Flip and cook for a few more minutes until the cheese swells but does not burst.
  10. Serve hot with the prepared orange sauce drizzled on top.

Notes

  • Monitor cheese closely while frying to avoid bursting.
  • Orange sauce can be reused with pancakes or breakfast dishes.
  • Ensure double breading for best results.
